Prayer is a Relationship

Prayer is neither black magic nor is it a form of demand note.  Prayer is a relationship.

Smoke Free 90 Days!

Smoke Free 90 Days!

Wow! Now that’s a new record for me. It’s a miracle that’s for sure, one day at a time. Never underestimate the power of prayer. And I can’t forget the Chantix. I know I couldn’t have made it this far without it.

I have not been going to the gym. I miss going because it is such a great reminder that I no longer smoke. I tend to take it for granted that I am not smoking anymore. Can you imagine? As desperate as I was to stop and all those times I tried, I have now become complacent. When I go work out every step on that treadmill reminds me how lucky I am that I can breathe and still have the oxygen and stamina to walk two or three miles at a pretty good pace. Now if it gives me such a great feeling, why don’t I go? I have a million reasons. I forget to bring my shoes/clothes in the morning, my son works at 5:00 and needs my car most nights during the week, I never think about going in the morning before work, and I never think about going home changing shoes/clothes and then heading for the gym. Okay, no more excuses. I just figured out how I can overcome the minor obstacles I have thrown in my path. After all, I am paying for it every month, I might as well use it, right?

Well, our KU Jayhawks have made it to the Final Four once again. I am so excited. Those kids have worked hard and I hope they go all the way! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

Huckabee vs McCain-What to Do?

Huckabee vs McCain-What to Do?

Today, James Dobson, a conservative republican who is looked up to by many, endorsed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. In a statement first obtained by The Associated Press, Dobson reiterated his declaration on Super Tuesday that he could not in good conscience vote for John McCain, the front-runner, because of concerns over the Arizona senator’s conservative credentials.

Even though Huckabee doesn’t have any chance of being the Republican nominee for President, I still have to make that decision between voting for him and McCain. In my heart I know that McCain is not the right candidate for me. On a daily basis I make choices that I have to live with. It’s a good feeling to be able to lay my head on my pillow each night and know that I did the best I could for that day. I don’t have any regrets or guilt or worries over the choices I’ve made. This has been the way I have lived my life for the last 6 years in Sobriety. Then why would I give up such a gift that God has given me by voting for McCain.? Knowing in my heart that he is not even close to the sort of man that I want leading this country. At the end of the day it’s between me and my God, and I want to be able to continue sleeping very well at night. My selection is clear.

This is an excerpt from The Catholic Knight:

It’s simple, and it’s easy to remember! Pope Benedict XVI outlined the three-point agenda for Catholics in politics and elections.

The three-point agenda is…

  1. “Pro-Life”
  2. “Pro-Family”
  3. “School-Choice”

The pope’s three-point agenda of Catholic Social Justice comes in a timely manner, as Catholics in the USA prepare for the 2006 Congressional election and the 2008 Presidential election. The pope clarified…

Benedict XVI said that the focus of public interventions by the Catholic Church “is the protection and promotion of the dignity of the person and she is thereby consciously drawing particular attention to principles which are not negotiable.”

The Pope spelled out these principles thus:

— “protection of life in all its stages, from the first moment of conception to natural death”;

— “recognition and promotion of the natural structure of the family — as a union between a man and a woman based on marriage — and its defense from attempts to make it juridically equivalent to radically different forms of union which in reality harm it and contribute to its de-stabilization, obscuring its particular character and its irreplaceable social role”;

— and “the protection of the right of parents to educate their children.”

Common to all

Benedict XVI clarified: “These principles are not truths of faith, even though they receive further light and confirmation from faith; they are inscribed in human nature itself and therefore they are common to all humanity.”

“The Church’s action in promoting them is therefore not confessional in character, but is addressed to all people, prescinding from any religious affiliation they may have,” he said….
