American Idol: One down

There are lots of changes going on with ‘American Idol’ for the new season. Kara DioGuardi’s addition is only the first of many we will see in Season 8. With a 6 percent dip in viewership for Season 7, cutting back on the filmed auditions from 4 weeks to 3, they are hoping will help keep the viewers coming back. One week less of the off-key singers and more of the talented ones. Also, they are sending 36 instead of 24 to the shows Hollywood Week final cut to 12 idols. That will be a huge maneuver to up the stakes.

As far as last night goes, same old stuff. Let’s get to the talent folks. Only two more weeks of the ‘funny?’ singers.

Tonight’s the Night: American Idol Season 8

American Idol Season 8 kicks off tonight on Fox at 7 pm CST.

A new judge will be introduced, Kara DioGuardi. The old panel will be there as well as the newbie. Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson are ready to rate the ‘talent’, I use the word loosely. I hope this season has some real talent, like back in the day of Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, and others. There wasn’t that much competition in Season 7. I hope Paula can keep her act together and not forget what is going on.

Tonight will tell the tale of the new judge Kara. I hope she isn’t a ‘positive people pleaser’. A little honesty, kind of like Randy and Simon judge the contestants. Well, we’ll see how it goes.
